5 Ways to Protect Your Car in Extreme Heat

December 19, 2014Maintenance, Tips and adviceAuto Zone, cars, Clear Bra Ohio, Cover King Standard

All of us have had moments when we’ve opened up our car door, sat on the seat and felt like we were immediately roasting inside of our automobiles. That’s because in the summertime, when our cars are sitting in 90-plus temperatures, they tend to feel more like ovens than anything else (especially when our cars have leather seats inside of them). And even when our air conditioning works, sometimes we don’t want to rely so much on it because it ends up using all of our gas.

Extreme HeatSo, what can you do to protect you and your car during extreme heat conditions? That’s a really good question and we’re going to share with you five great answers below:

Check your battery regularly. If you’ve noticed that there are times during the summer when you’ve tried to start your car but it seems to be a bit harder to get it started than usual, it could be due to the heat. That’s because extreme weather temperatures can actually drain the battery over time. So, during the summer, make sure that you check your battery regularly. Also, don’t forget to keep the top of the battery clean too. (Remember, you can go to your local Auto Zone to have your battery professionally checked for free.)

Tint your windows. Something that you can do to shield the interior of your car from the sun is to have your windows professionally tinted. Doing so will reduce the heat, glare and also UV rays from affecting your vehicle. Being that it will cost you a few hundred dollars to do, just make sure that you use a company that is reputable and can offer you several customer reviews beforehand.

Invest in a car cover. If your house or place employment does not have covered parking available, something that we strongly recommend that you do is invest in a car cover. Basically, they serve as a “sunscreen” for your car. You can find a quality one for under $40 at websites like Cover King, Cover Craft and Amazon.

Put on a coat of wax. Anything that sits in the sun for hours on end runs the risk of becoming damaged. This would include car paint. So, if you recently got your car professionally painted at a shop like Clear Bra Ohio but you’re not in the habit of putting a coat of wax on your car, the summer season would be a great time to start doing it. Not only does it help to protect your car from the sun’s rays but it also serves as a repellant for dirt and debris as well.

Keep the windows cracked. Finally, the cheapest thing that you can do is also one of the most effective: crack open your windows. The reason why is because when you open your windows, it will provide ventilation to the interior of your car which will ultimately help to reduce the extremely hot temperature that is inside of your vehicle. Just make sure that your windows are cracked only enough for a finger to fit through but not an entire hand so that you can reduce the risk of theft. For more information on how to help your car last throughout the summer months, contact your local mechanic.
